Recreation Department 2022 Master Plan

Education tips

We need your help to improve the future of Parks & Recreation as we are updating our Parks & Recreation Master Plan.

Every 10 years a department wide master plan is completed, these comprehensive plans are a way to guide and ensure needs are being met for the Kernersville Community. The latest master plan was adopted on January 8, 2013 therefore it is time to start this process.

This 10-year plan focuses on the future of parks in terms of renovation of our existing system, development and placement of new parks, developing the greenway system, expanding offerings such as programs and events, and overall updating our inventory of amenities to meet needs, wants, trends, maintenance standards, and staffing.

We are sending out over 3,000 surveys to randomly selected residents. They will be in a mint green envelope with a pre-paid return envelope! We are asking those who receive them to complete them and return them back to us.

Those who do not receive a paper assessment will also have an opportunity to make their voice heard at a general input sessions this month. The input sessions are as follows:

  • Monday, June 27th – Athletics & Instructors           12pm – 1pm
  • Monday, June 27th – Local Government                  1pm – 2pm
  • Tuesday, June 28th – Non Profits & Civic Clubs       12pm – 1pm
  • Tuesday, June 28th – Schools, PTAs, & Scouts         1pm – 2pm
  • Wednesday, June 29th – Public Forum                      6pm – 7pm

You are welcome to attend any of the other focus group meetings or the Public Forum to contribute input. We will also launch an online version of the assessment via SurveyMonkey and that link will be posted on our website and social media channels. Those detail will be announced soon.
