After-School Wetland Walk & Demo

March 28, 2017 @ 3:45 pm - 5:45 pm

We’ve got a fun event happening at Ivey M Redmon Sports Complex! For Forsyth Creek Week there will be two great after-school activities, both offered at 3:45 p.m., 4:25 p.m., & 5:05 p.m. Each activity last 30 minutes with 10-minute breaks between sessions. Suitable for all ages and interactive.

Wetland Plant Walk: Join Wendi Hartup, Kernersville’s stormwater manager, on an educational walk and talk around the stormwater wetland recently created at the Ivey Redmon Sports Complex. Find out the wetland’s role in protecting water quality, why there is a greenwall, the native plants featured and wildlife it attracts.

Stream Simulator: Get your hands wet and learn about erosion in streams. Mitch Woodward, a water quality extension agent with N.C. State, will use a stream simulator to demonstrate stream processes, what happens when conditions change, and best management practices to protect and restore our streams and rivers. He’ll also discuss upcoming plans to restore the stream at the park.

This is a rain or shine event. Bring an umbrella or rain gear if needed. Bring questions and an intention to explore! For more information contact Wendi Hartup at whartup@toknc.com or 336-564-1613.
